Foreign Minister Maria Angela Holguin announced Friday that the conversation between Santos and his French counterpart will center around trade and security. The two-day visit from January 25-26 will also focus on promoting cultural exchange between the two countries.
Holguin recently returned from a trip to France where she met with the foreign minister and various other French officials. She described the visit, which also focused on trade, as “very beneficial.” The two foreign ministers discussed Colombia’s bid to join the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and Colombia sought French support for the ratification of the South American country’s free trade agreement with the European Union.
Sarkozy and Santos also met in July, when the then-president-elect toured Europe. Santos said that the French leader had promised to support Colombia’s entry into OECD.
