Santos made the announcement during the launch of the Public Policy of Gender Equality for Women at the presidential palace.
“In this event we want to confirm that we are applying this policy to the government, to a great woman who will integrate the government at its highest level, Gina Parody, who is going to be the High Commissioner for Bogota Affairs,” said the president.
In her position, Parody will be the connection between the government and the capital of the country for political issues, infrastructure and economic advancement.
Parody is a lawyer from the Jeveriana University with specialization in conflict resolution and a masters in public administration and management of cities of the 21st Century. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 2002 and in 2006 became the youngest person to become a senator.
The Bogota-born politician ran for mayor of the city last year, but lost to Gustavo Petro.
“It is my honor and privilege that President Santos has allowed me to work for Bogota and the region and by his side,” said Parody on her Twitter account.
