Santos meets with business leaders to review economy

by Tom Heyden March 1, 2011

Colombia news - Juan Manuel Santos

President Juan Manuel Santos met with Colombian business leaders and the presidents of major foreign companies Monday evening to discuss the current performance and future prospects of the national economy.

The three-hour meeting addressed issues related to infrastructure, security, trade, and emergency aid following the devastating effects of the rainy season, according to a government press release.

The head of state said that although he was pleased with recent unemployment figures, he would like to see the number drop into single figures and asked for business leaders to support future employment generation.

Recent figures from the national statistics institute DANE showed the current unemployment rate to be at 13.5%.
