Six assailants tore through a birthday party on Colombia’s Caribbean coast in the early hours of Wednesday morning, according to local media reports.
Five people were confirmed dead as a result of the shooting, with one left seriously injured following the shooting, which took place on a small farm in the village of Bonda, near the coastal city of Santa Marta.
Metropolitan Police Commander Colonel Fredy Tibaduia said the gunmen arrived between 2.45am and 3am, firing indiscriminately on the party’s roughly 30 guests, according to the El Tiempo newspaper.
Investigations are said to be underway and as of yet it, no explications for the massacre have been offered.
Those killed in the incident have yet to be identified publicly. Carlos Alberto Machado, the 28-year-old lawyer injured in the attack, is reportedly being treated in a clinic in Santa Marta.
