Salsa singer Andy Montañez suffers minor injuries after car crash

by Brandon Barrett April 30, 2012

Puerto Rican salsa singer Andy Montañez suffered minor injuries in a car accident in northern Colombia, reported local media.

“El Godfather de la Salsa”, who gained prominence in the 1960s and 1970s with the group El Gran Combo, was travelling from Barranquilla to Valledupar with his entourage when the front tire of his vehicle exploded.

“They suffered minor injuries. Andy suffered, but not serious injuries,” said the singer’s representative Alvaro Gomez Cuartas.

Montañez underwent surgery for a wound on his foot and will be monitored for the next 24 hours, according to his physician Reinaldo Ferreira.

The Latin Grammy winner has released over 50 albums in his illustrious career
