Russian citizen murdered in Bogota

by Stephen Manker July 19, 2011

Colombia News - Crime

Police found a Russian citizen with gunshot wounds in the streets of southern Bogota early Tuesday morning.

The 36-year-old man was found under a bridge in very bad condition, with two bullet wounds in his chest. He was transferred to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries shortly thereafter.

According to the preliminary report from the authorities, the man could have been a victim of an “express kidnapping,” in which the perpertrators go to ATMs and withdraw all the money that they can from the victims’ accounts. In some cases, they also force the victims to relinquish keys to their homes or businesses for further theft of valuables.

Police hypothesize that the Russian was accosted in a taxi he hailed from “Parque de la 93.”

The Russian citizen arrived to Colombia on Sunday for business meetings in the country’s capital city.
