Priest shot dead in Bogota city center

by Sarah Kinosian May 2, 2012

Colombia Reports- gun

A priest was fatally shot in a hotel in the center of Bogota on Tuesday night.

According to reports, 53-year-old Jesus Maria Parra was at Hotel Santamaria de Jesus when two teenagers entered the establishment and shot him dead.

Bogota police captured two shooters, a 19-year-old and a 17-year-old. The 19-year-old had a revolver with six missing bullets.

Supposedly Parra had received threats from drugs gangs operating in the city center, however the motive for the murder is unknown.

The murder comes two and a half months after it was discovered that two priests that were found shot dead last year in Bogota had hired their own killers after one of the men was diagnosed with AIDS.
