President Santos undergoes successful surgery

by Tom Heyden April 20, 2011

Colombia News - Juan Manuel Santos

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos completes successful eye surgery Tuesday night and is recovering in the presidential palace, the Casa de Nariño, various media have reported.

The president announced last night via Twitter, “I will be doing a brief outpatient surgery. Nothing serious. Tomorrow I will be telling you how it turned out.”

Around three hours later the head of state again used the social networking site to say, “Thank God the operation was successfully completed without any problems. Thanks for your messages of support.”

The minor surgery on his right eye lasted no more than an hour at the Clinica del Country, in north Bogota, where he was then released and taken to the presidential palace to recover.

Santos is expected to take Wednesday to recover fully before resuming his week’s activities, while he is also due to reveal further details regarding the surgery, according to El Tiempo.
