Colombian president Juan Manuel Santos said in a press release Friday that he regrets the resignation of former Prosecutor General Viviane Morales.
The head of state hailed the efficiency, transparency, dignity and character of the former official. Santos had said that she could still stand for reelection should she wish to do so.
Santos announced that the current vice-prosecutor general Wilson Martinez will temporarily take head office while an official is elected.
In a speech to her staff and fellow employees, Morales announced Friday morning that she would not make herself available for the candidate shortlist that President Santos must submit to the Supreme Court.
Colombia’s State Council voted to remove Morales from office earlier this week on the basis that she was not properly elected.
