Colombia’s National Police made an open call Wednesday for applicants to join their ranks as part of the Public Safety Policy promoted by President Juan Manuel Santos and Defense Minister Rodrigo Rivera Salazar.
Police seek to swell their ranks by 25,000 uniformed personnel by adding 1,030 to the rank of officer, 14,500 to patrol, and 9,300 auxiliary patrol members assigned from country’s compulsory military service.
In 2010 the cities of Bogota, Medellin and Baranquilla asked the national government for more police presence to combat the increase in violent crime.
