by Sarah Cast July 15, 2011

Colombia news - semi submersibles

Colombian police discovered three semi-submersibles allegedly belonging to the neo-paramilitary group “Los Urabeños.”

Authorities located the semi-submersibles in a craft workshop in Neococli, a Caribbean coastal town in the department of Antioquia, newspaper El Espectador reported Friday.

Two of the illicit objects were in the final process of construction and one was ready for use.

Such devices can hold up to 1,000 gallons of fuel, which is enough reach Central America in three to five days.

Colombian police say that the semi-submersibles belonged to “Los Urabeños,” a criminal organization with control over the drug trafficking operations in much of Colombia’s northern departments.

The vessels were capable of transporting between one and three tons of cocaine.
