During the drug raid, which was planned by police intelligence forces well in advance, the authorities were able to confiscate 1.2 tons of cocaine hydrochloride–cocaine mixed with salt commonly recognized as a white powder–hidden in a truck.
According to a police press release, the two who were captured tried to bribe the officers with $150,000. The confiscated drugs were estimated to be worth well over 2.6 million dollars.
Additionally the authorities confiscated 6,800 gallons of biodiesel and 3,400 gallons of gas worth around $30,000.
The drugs were on their way from the eastern part of Colombia’s central Antioquia state to the northern port of Turbo from where the cocaine was planned to be shipped to Europe or the US, authorities reported.
The confiscated drugs allegedly belonged to the neo-paramilitary group “Los Urabeños”, currently Colombia’s most powerful drug trafficking organization.
