Police caught the leader of the street gang “Los Triana” in one of 40 raids Wednesday that yielded 28 captured in total reported W Radio.
The director of the anti-narcotics police force, General Cesar Augusto Pinzon, told W Radio that Carlos Mario Triana alias “Gordo Chiquito” was caught in an operation in Medellin that captured a total of 20 gang members.
According to the general, Triana is accused of 40 murders in Bello, a municipality north of Medellin.
The operation in Medellin, called “Republica 70” by the general, was part of a country-wide operation Wednesday to seek out and capture members of drug gangs.
It was reported earlier that a financial officer of the drug gang “Los Rastrojos” was captured in a raid in the southwest department of Valle de Cauca.
General Pinzon also told W Radio that not only did the operation see the capture of the leaders of criminal gangs, it also attacked their infrastructure by capturing lower level associates such as collection managers, extortionists, and people related to micro drug trafficking.
Attacking the infrastructure of drug gangs is a parameter of Defense Minister Rodrigo Rivera’s new D-6 plan to combat emerging criminal groups said the general to W Radio.
