by Julia Myska June 26, 2013

Following an apparent offensive against local pedophiles, police in the northwestern Colombian department of Antioquia on Wednesday announced the arrest of 32 suspected child molesters.

The 32 alleged pedophiles were arrested in 20 municipalities of the Antioquia department. With the arrests, the department’s police department arrested 134 alleged sex offenders in the course of 2013.

According to the police, “63% of the victims are children between 6 and 9 and 37% is between 14 and 17 years old, the most affected gender — with 80% —  is female and the areas with the highest occurrence of child abuse are rural.”

A 50-year-old suspect was arrested and charged for the abuse of his 11 and 14 year old daughters.

According to the police, the operation was carried out after six months of investigation that allowed the identification and arrest of the alleged sex offenders.
