In the last week Colombian police have arrested 103 people who are believed to belong to various drug trafficking organizations around Colombia.
Of those arrested people, 67 are thought to be linked to the Medellin drug trafficking organizations headed by Erick Vargas, alias “Sebastian” and , alias “Valenciano.”
Sebastian and Valenciano were middle-men of the now defunct Office of Envigado, who rose up the ranks after their superiors were captured. Violence is plaguing Medellin, as the two drug lords now fight for control of drug trafficking routes out of the city, as well as the illegal industry within the city itself.
A further seventeen of those arrested are believed to belong to “Los Rastrojos,” ten to “Los Paisas,” seven to “Los de Uraba” and two to Erpac.
Among those arrested was John Albeiro Quiceno Ortiz, alias “Jimmy,” the leader of Los de Uraba. Police had offered a reward of COP250 million for information leading to his arrest.
During the last week police have seized 73 firearms, 568 cartridges, four grenades and two motorbikes.
There are an estimated 5,000 people involved in gangs in Medellin.
