The third International Meeting of Andean Cultures will be held this August in the southwestern Colombian city of Pasto, newspaper El Espectador reported Wednesday.
The meeting will feature academics, artists, and representatives from indigenous peoples in Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela, and Colombia who will seek to deepen each others’ understanding of Andean culture and thought.
The delegates will share information on their cultures’ myths, ceremonies, conservation efforts, traditional medicine techniques, and efforts to maintain Andean ways. The event will also feature a number of events celebrating Andean art and achievement, including international festivals of film and theater.
Delegates from other countries have been invited to participate. This year Brazil, Cuba, Mexico, Guatemala, France, Switzerland, and the United States have all been asked to send delegates.
Anyone who has a stake in Andean culture can participate and most events are free. The meeting will occur from August 13-21.
