The Discovery Channel will be premiering a documentary on Pablo Escobar’s hippopotami, which have been wreaking havoc on the property of the deceased drug lord.
The hippos had been terrorizing the neighborhood surrounding Hacienda Napoles, Pablo’s previous palace and personal makeshift zoo located in the outskirts of Medellin that was recently converted into a theme park.
The documentary follows the dramatic capture of the wild hippos who were hiding out on the property and laying low, evading officials.
The “Gangster’s Hippopotamuses” interviews veterinarians, drug-trafficking experts, and Pablo’s brother Robert Escobar, to find out the story behind the chubby creatures and the ecological impact they have had on nearby rivers and lagoons.
Authorities calculate that 35 wild hippopotamuses currently live in Hacienda Napoles and surrounding areas. This number represents the largest concentration of hippopotamuses outside of Africa.
Discovery Channel plans to launch the documentary on Wednesday, August 31 at 9PM.
