Colombia’s armed forces cleared up confusion over suspended operations and intentions to initiate the rescue of French journalist Romeo Langlois.
In a message to the AFP, General Javier Rey said the army doubts the authenticity of a recent call from a supposed FARC member claiming to have Langlois. Rey also said Colombian security forces would continue operations as normal in the area of Langlois’ disappearance.
Colombia’s Defense Minister Juan Carlos Pinzon said combat operations would continue as normal and dismissed plans for a rescue operation.
Pinzon told El Espectador newspaper, “we’re not doing any rescue operations because we don’t know where [Langlois] is. If we initiated this we would also be talking to the French government, but right now there are no operations of this kind.”
