An oil truck overturned and spilled 11,200 gallons of diesel in the southern Colombian Huila department Monday.
The truck was traveling between the cities Neiva and Florencia when its breaks failed, Colombia’s Highway Patrol told media.
The spill affected the waters of Las Damas creek and the Magdalena river. Local authorities declared a state of emergency and began the process of decontaminating the affected areas and preventing further contamination.
