Colombia, for years one of the world’s deadliest places to be a reporter, has disappeared from the Committee To Protect Journalists’ annual top 20 list of dangerous countries.
According to the CPJ, only one Colombian journalist has been killed because of his profession this year. This is a drop from two reporters in 2010.
Luis Eduardo Gomez was killed in the Arboletes in the department of Antioquia in July 2011.
According to the CPJ 43 journalists have been murdered in Colombia since 1992. The highest number of deaths were recorded in 1998 and 2002 during which there were nine deaths.
