A new Colombian consulate opened in Orlando, the second in the state of Florida, reported U.S. and Colombian media.
The new office will issue passports, visas and other significant documents, as well as offering essential consular services and providing care and assistance to Colombians detained in Florida prisons.
The Orlando office is the 11th Colombian consulate to be opened in the United States and the second in Florida, after Miami. The only other countries with diplomatic representation in central Florida are Mexico and Haiti.
Colombians currently make up the largest South American ex-pat community in the U.S.
According to the Colombian Foreign Ministry there are 3.4 million Colombians living overseas.
