National Development Plan approved in first round of debates

The National Development Plan was approved in the first round of congressional debates local media reported Friday.

An economic commission in Congress approved the 220 article National Plan of Development 2011-2014 proposed by President Juan Manuel Santos which outlines government objectives, goals and strategies for economic development and aims to increase prosperity for the citizens of the country.

In accordance with the plan, the Ministry of Interior and Justice will coordinate with the Presidential Office for Gender Equality to undertake affirmative action programs to provide equal opportunities for all citizens, keeping in mind the situations particular to minority groups, those living in rural areas, and the internally displaced.

The plan also focuses on providing equal access to a more effective judicial system, creating stronger economic ties with Asian nations, and reducing the amount of territory under control of illegal armed groups.
