Miss Cartagena could lose crown over racy photos

by Brandon Barrett June 15, 2012

The recently crowned Miss Cartagena may lose her title after reports surfaced that she posed in lingerie for a photo shoot, which is prohibited by Colombia’s National Beauty Contest organizers.

Elida Patricia Castro, a 23-year-old attorney, hasn’t had much time to enjoy her win, after being handed the crown June 7. It has been a rough month for Colombian beauty queens. Miss Bogota, Loly Fuentes, might lose her tiara after a television program allegedly got hold of nude photos of her. She fervently denied the claims, saying the pictures were “a very good job done in Photoshop.” Fuentes reportedly underwent three sepearte lie detector tests to prove her innocence.

This is the second year in a row that the reigning Miss Cartagena has been embroiled in controversy. Last year’s winner, Laura Cantillo, was disqualified for alleged ties to a Mexican drug lord.

The national Miss Colombia pageant is slated for November.
