Millionarios to play Real Madrid

by Charles Parkinson February 3, 2012

millionarios

Colombia’s most successful soccer team Millionarios will play a friendly match against the worlds most successful team Real Madrid.

The match is being staged in honor of legendary Argentinian forward Alfredo Di Stefano, who spent four years at the Bogota team before transferring to Madrid in 1953.

Di Stefano’s move to Madrid was highly controversial because he was originally due to sign for Real’s rivals Barcelona, until Madrid’s president Santiago Bernabeu stepped in to negotiations and convinced him to switch allegiance.

Di Stefano is considered one of the greatest forwards of all time, scoring more than 500 goals in his 20 year career.

The match will take place in August in Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
