The mayor of a Colombian town on the country’s west coast was arrested Tuesday for alleged abuse of public office and for committing offenses against the public administration.

The mayor, Jose Felix Ocoro, was in his office when he was arrested by the Technical Investigation Team dispatched by the prosecutor general.

Ocoro, who is the mayor of the west Colombian port town of Buenaventura, is being investigated for a number of crimes including conspiracy to commit crimes, falsifying a public document, procedural fraud and embezzlement.

The mayor is believed to have been involved with the illegal exchange of properties in the port town in 2010.
