A suspected FARC raid has left two people dead, including a child, and two more wounded, local media reported Friday.
The bloody event took place in the township of Timbiqui (see map below), in the southwestern province of Cauca, where alleged FARC insurgents opened fire on the civilian population.
Saiber Florez Rodriguez, aged 11, and Jorge Armando Torres, aged 29 were both struck by gunfire and killed in the melee. The pair was reportedly members of a folk group that were practicing in the town’s “House of Culture”.
Two others identified as Bellair Vente and Balanta Mosquera also sustained injuries.
While the identities of the assailants and motive behind the attack have not been confirmed, police believe FARC guerrillas are to blame.
The latest bloodshed comes just hours after another suspected FARC attack resulted in two deaths and scores of injuries in the Valle de Cauca department, which neighbours Cauca.
