Manizales celebrates the 33rd year of their International Theater Festival and invited the continent Asia to join in the celebration, which runs September 9-18.
This year the festival has invited countries of Asia as a special guest, to feature events such as butoh dance, comic martial arts, music, and all of the theatrical wonder they could find under the eastern sun. Seven groups from China, Korea, Japan, and Thailand will be attending the event, presenting their acts under the name of “¡Hola Asia!”
The Korean human group “Jegam Theatre” will be performing their piece called “Jump” to officially kick off the event, which promises to be a hilarious interpretation of martial arts, like tae-kwon-do, with acrobatics and lots of fun.
50 groups from 20 different countries will be participating in the festival this year, and will host around 90 events in Plaza de Bolivar, Parque Ernesto Gutierrez, Cable Parque Antonio Nariño, Juan Valdez, Rotonda del Parque de Caldas, Parque Fundadores, Universidad de Caldas, Universidad Nacional, Hospital Infantil, the Museo de Arte de Caldas, and many more locations throughout the city.
Manizales promises a wild week of clowns, human statues, musicians, mimes, stilt walkers, and acrobats.
