Colombia striker Radamel Falcao is reportedly set to become Manchester City’s next big money acquisition after reports the English club have smashed the British transfer record to trigger the striker’s buy-out clause and bring ‘El Tigre’ to the Premier League.
English newspaper the Daily Mirror was first to the news, reporting that the 2012 Fifa player of the year will be heading to the blue half of Manchester next season after the club agreed to an $82 million transfer fee with Atletico Madrid, enough to buy out the two years left on his contract and to invoke a clause forcing the Spanish club to allow the club to discuss terms with the player.
According to the Mirror, Falcao is set to sign a deal worth over $300,000 per week and will become the Manchester club’s first signing since parting ways with manager Roberto Mancini.
The news is yet to be confirmed or commented on by either club or the player, whose future has been the subject of intense speculation for the past year, however Atletico manager Miguel Angel Gil Marin today said that the club will not stand in the striker’s way should he want to leave, saying “any decision he takes, Atletico will support it.”
