Man confesses to murder of Armenia official

by Hannah Aronowitz February 28, 2011

Colombia news - gavel

A man admits to the murder of an accountant in the Prosecutor’s Office of Armenia, central Colombia, in February, newspaper El Espectador reported Monday.

Fabian Geovanny Toro Restrepo admitted before the 5th Penal Court of Armenia that he murdered Clara Alicia Giraldo Giraldo in the city in Colombia’s central coffee region.

Giraldo was driving with her assistant down Centennial Avenue on February 11 when her car was the target of a hail of bullets shot by a man on a motorcycle. The government official died but her assistant was left unscathed.

Toro was arrested on February 17 when police apprehended him selling heroin in the La Fachada neighborhood of Armenia.

The man was charged with aggravated murder and illegal possession of firearms. After confessing to the murder in a hearing Monday he was incarcerated in the San Bernardo prison.
