Medellin police have begun investigating the murder of a man on the metro, who died after being severely beaten by multiple people.
According to the preliminary media reports, the attack occurred 6PM last Thursday at the Universidad metro stop after the man had been accused of abusing a female minor. When the victim, identified as Libardo de Jesus Vargas Cortes, boarded the metro, he was badly beaten by a group of attackers.
“Passengers who at that moment were traveling in the particular cabin called for police presence. Effectively, they turned him over to the police personnel present at the station immediately and proceeded to accompany mister Vargas to interrogate him about what happened,” Luz Marina Aristazabal, the metro’s director, emailed Colombia Reports.
During the interrogation, the victim “suddenly said he felt dizzy and asked if he could use the bathroom after which he vomited,” said Aristazabal. After this, Vargas Cortes was taken to hospital where he died.
Acording to the metro director, the victim “was in an apparent state of health until the moment he said he felt dizzy and nauseous.”
Colombian authorities have begun investigating the murder, however, so far no witnesses have come forth to testify against the crime and there are reportedly no security cameras in the area where the attack took place.
