Liga Postobon: Once Caldas remain on top

by Jonathan Roorda March 7, 2011

Colombia News - Once Caldas and Tolima

Defending champions Once Caldas added yet another win to their account on Sunday, in order to remain at the top of the Colombian Liga Postobon.

In a repeat of last year’s final between Deportes Tolima and Once Caldas, the latter were again the better side. All goals were scored in the second half, with Wason Renteria breaking the deadlock near the hour mark.

Alexis Henriquez then made it 2-0 to Once Caldas in the 74th minute, and Dayro Moreno added a third seven minutes later. A converted penalty from Felipe Noguera made little difference for the final result.

Tolima were a man down for most of the second half as Julian Hurtado was red-carded eight minutes after the break.

Deportes Quindio and Itagüi Ditaires no longer share the lead with Once Caldas, losing to Cucuta Deportivo and Deportivo Cali respectively.

Quindio hosted Cucuta in the city of Armenia, where Geovanni Garcia scored the only goal of the match from the penalty spot in the 22nd minute, 1-0.

Itagüi Ditaires meanwhile, suffered a 1-0 defeat at Deportivo Cali with Diego Alvarez scoring the only goal after 69 minutes.

La Equidad moved into seventh place following a 1-0 win over America de Cali, who in turn dropped further away from the top eight. A dramatic own goal from Jorge Banguero decided the match in the final minute. To make matters worse for America, Cesar Fabian Morales was red-carded in added time and misses the next game.

In the day’s remaining matches, Atletico Huila were held to a goalless draw at Deportivo Pereira while Real Cartagena beat Independiente Medellin 2-0.
