LatAm actors scammed by Colombian telenovela fraud scheme

by Marguerite Cawley June 30, 2011

scam

Latin American actors have reported being scammed in Bogota by a producer who created a fraudulent program to promote telenovelas, RCN Television reported.

Producer Daniel Ferrer apparently contacted various Latin American actors about recording a show that would promote Colombian telenovelas and would be sold to international channels. However, after the pilot episode was recorded, the actors didn’t receive payment or were paid with false checks.

Actors from Venezuela, Mexico, Cuba and Argentina traveled to Colombia to produce the show and their representatives covered the costs, which were supposed to be reimbursed by the supposed producer. He later failed to respond to email messages and telephone calls from the angry actors.

Among the scammed actors was sexy Venezuelan actress Ana Beatriz Osorio, who once posed naked for Playboy. The actress reported that those contracted worked very hard, late into the night, and later received nothing.

Ferrer is also being accused for similar cases in Venezuela and the U.S.
