by Jim Glade February 9, 2011

Colombia news - military

A landmine explosion in the north of Colombia killed one soldier and left two injured, reported RCN Radio Wednesday.

The explosion occurred near the village of Santa Isabel in the northern department of Cesar. The soldiers were reportedly patrolling the area when the landmine went off, killing a lieutenant and injuring two other soldiers.

The two wounded were transported to a hospital in the area.

The FARC are often said to be responsible for these explosive devices, reported RCN.

This incident comes on the first day of five day operation to unilaterally release five FARC hostages.
