Junior unstoppable in Copa Libertadores

by Jonathan Roorda March 10, 2011

Atletico Junior of Barranquilla remain on top of Copa Libertadores Group 2 following a 2-1 win at Oriente Petrolero on Wednesday.

Going into this match, Junior had won their previous two games while Bolivian outfit Oriente Petrolero suffered two defeats.

Victor Cortes was first to find the target, handing Junior a 1-0 lead after 27 minutes at Santa Cruz de la Sierra’s Ramon Aguilera Costas stadium. In the first minute of the second half, Luis Paez doubled the away side’s lead.

Juan Carlos Arce pulled one back in the dying minutes, but it was too little, too late for the Bolivian hosts.

With nine points from three games, Junior convincingly top Group 2 ahead of Brazialian giants Gremio (6 points), Leon de Huanuco (3) and Oriente Petrolero, who have yet to earn a point.

In their next Copa Libertadores game, scheduled for March 17th, Junior and Oriente Petrolero meet again in Barranquilla.
