The health of salsa master Joe Arroyo has deteriorated significantly in the past five days, the Clinica La Asuncion finally announced after weeks of secrecy, Colombian media reported.
“He currently is in delicate state with multi-organ failure. He is assisted with vasopressor drugs [to raise blood pressure], but remains hypotensive (low blood pressure). He is in a daily dialysis program and has mechanical respiratory assistance.”
Arroyo has been in an intensive care in Baranquilla since June 27. On July 5, Arroyo’s hospital staff revealed that he was suffering from emphysema, diabetes, and a cardiac condition that limits the amount of blood received by his heart muscles.
On July 19, he received a tracheotomy to relieve stress on his respiratory system and it was claimed that his health was improving.
The medical staff will continue to monitor the singer’s development, but caution that his condition is critical.
