Itagui continue to impress in Liga Postobon

Newly promoted Itagui Ditaires jumped to second place in the Colombian Liga Postobon following a 1-0 win over America.

Itagui delivered yet another impressive performance at their own Ditaires stadium. The match had been under way for 14 minutes when David Cordoba scored what turned out to be the winning goal.

Thanks to the result, Itagui move into second place at three points from leaders Once Caldas.

Meanwhile, Atletico Nacional earned a 3-1 win in an away game to Atletico Huila. All goals were scored in the second half, with Macnelly Torres breaking the deadlock after 50 minutes.

Edwin Cardona doubled the gap in the 75th minute, and Yovanny Arrechea made it 3-0 in the 84th. Another four minutes later, Huila’s Ayron Del Valle scored a consolation goal.

Junior suffered a 2-1 home defeat by Envigado, who needed just nine minutes for Armando Carillo to open the scoring.

Vladimir Hernandez resstored the balance just before the break, but Envigado had he final say at Barranquilla’s Metropolitan stadium as Yilmar Angulo netted the winner eight minutes after the hour.

Cucuta Deportivo earned a convincing 4-0 win over Deportivo Pereira, with Diego Peralta scoring the opening goal after 23 minutes. Cesar Arias scored twice, while the remaining goal came from Juan Garcia.

In the day’s remaining game, Boyaca Chico beat Real Cartagena 3-0 with goals from Juan Mahecha, Charles Monsalvo and Edwin Movil. All goals were scored in the final 20 minutes.

With eight teams qualifying for the next round at the end of the regular season, Once Caldas, Itagüi, Nacional, Envigado, Cucuta, Medellin, Quindio and Tolima are currently on course to do so.
