Colombia’s Carlos Valderrama to star in new movie

by Matthew Sterne September 2, 2014

The iconic Colombian footballer Carlos “El Pibe” Valderrama is starring in a new movie release called “Un puñado de Pelos.”

The movie, which translates as “A handful of hairs” is about a millionaire who has everything in life but no hair. Valderrama plays the mayor of the town where people discover that the water makes one’s hair grow in the style of the legendary Colombian player.

Directed by Argentine Nestor Montalbano, the movie stars Uruguayan Ruben Rada and Argentinean Nicolas Vasquez.

Valderrama was the leader of the Colombian national team in the 1990s,  a period known as the golden age of Colombian soccer.

Accompanied by an all-star team, “El Pibe” led Colombia to a World Cup in 1990 after 28 years of absence. They famously held Gemany to a draw to qualify for the quarter finals. His distinctive blonde hair, coupled with his flamboyant technique on the ball, made him one of Colombia’s most recognizable footballers. Valderrama was well known during his time in Major Leaguer Soccer. To this day he is one of the most decorated playmakers to ever play in the MLS.
