Ibrahimovic for Colombia?

by Luke Horswell January 27, 2014

A Brazilian website has sparked a campaign to naturalize Swedish soccer star Zlatan Ibrahimovic to play for Colombia in place of the injured Falcao at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

No, Ibrahimovic does not have a distant Colombian ancestor which would make him eligible for the Colombia side. But a Brazilian website has started a lighthearted campaign to get him on the plane to Brazil in place of Colombia’s injured talisman Radamel Falcao.

Falcao’s presence at this summers World Cup has been severely jeopardized by a rupture to his anterior cruciate ligament last week and the chances of him featuring remain slim.

Ibrahimovic will not feature in one of world sport’s most prestigious competitions as Sweden failed to qualify.  If Falcao was to miss the tournament, it would mean that he and Ibrahimovic -two of the greatest players in the current game- would be absent from the sport’s top stage, a great loss for all soccer lovers.
