Huila and Quindio top Liga Postobon

by Jonathan Roorda February 14, 2011

Colombia news - Liga Postobon

Atletico Huila and Deportes Quindio are the only two teams to maintain a perfect record after the second round of the Colombian Liga Postobon.

The round began on Friday when Junior hosted vice-champions Deportes Tolima in Barranquilla. A goal from Carlos Bacca in the 19th minute was enough for the home side to secure their first win of the season.

Tolima ended the match two players down as both Felipe Noguera and Marlon Piedrahita were red-carded in the second half.

On Saturday, defending champions Once Caldas beat Deportivo Cali 2-0 with goals from Hector Quiñones (own goal) and Carlos Carbonero. In the day’s other match, La Equidad and Atletico Nacional held each other to a 1-1 draw.

Atletico Huila left a good impression in their home game with Real Cartagena on Sunday, beating their opponents 3-0 to jump to the top of the table. Wilson Morelo, Amilcar Espinosa and Erwin Carillo provided the goals, which were all scored in the second half.

Deportes Quindio played away to Santa Fe in Colombia’s capital city, Bogota, and surprisingly beat the home side 1-0. Hilton Murillo scored the only goal on the half hour mark.

Envigado and Itagüi Ditaires, who both won their opening games, held each other to a 2-2 draw with Carlos Alvarez opening the score after 25 minutes. Emerson Chamorro (penalty) and Lionard Pajoy turned things around in the first phase of the second half, but Jonathan Mejia set the score to 2-2 in the 62nd minute.

Daniel Zapata impressed in America de Cali’s home game against Deportivo Pereira, scoring all of his side’s three goals to lead America to a 3-1 win. Carlos Villagra and Carlos Rodas scored for Pereira.

In the remaining games of the day, Independiente Medellin beat Boyaca Chico 1-0 while Millonarios got their first points of the season, winning 1-0 at Cucuta Deportivo.
