Police in Colombia’s third largest city Cali seized a vast arsenal of weapons from drug trafficking organization the “Rastrojos.”
Sixty-nine weapons, bound to be distributed to Rastrojos gang members in the Valle del Cauca, Cauca and Nariño departments, were discovered in a car in southern Cali during operation “Vulcan,” reported Cali newspaper El Pais Monday.
The arsenal comprised of 49 pistols,18 revolvers, two rifles and 51 clips. The confiscated arsenal is allegedly worth over 150 thousand dollars.
The weapons were reportedly hidden in three suitcases disguised as “luggage” in a parked Mazda.
“These weapons coming to Colombia from South America or Central America, intended to feed the city’s criminal gangs. The police and the prosecution are developing work to determine the paths of weapons,” said Colonel Jorge Iván Toro, commander of the Cali Metropolitan Police.
