The homicide rate dropped by 62% during new year’s celebrations in Colombia compared with last year, according to a statement made by the General of National Police Wednesday.
According to the report, 28 murders were registered this year compared to 73 last year.
During the day, Police attended to 151,134 emergency calls nationwide.
Moreover, the number of injuries also showed a significant decrease from last year. In 2012, 159 people were injured compared to 40 this year.
The police also seized 674 kilograms of gunpowder throughout the country and responded directly to 29 cases of burn victims, including 14 minors. A decrease from last year’s 28 minors.
Directorate of Traffic and Transportation also reported a 56% decline in fatal accidents compared to last year.
The traffic police conducted 8,110 sobriety tests during the night and into the early morning, resulting in 83 testing positive for driving under the influence. Another series of tests conducted Wednesday morning resulted in another 53 incidents.
