The helicopters have flown over Cano’s suspected position many times and are providing reconnaissance as well as dropping soldiers into the heart of FARC territory.
Alfonso Cano is said to have narrowly dodged a government attack last week, and is currently being pursued in the rugged terrain of Chaparral, in the Tolima department.
El Tiempo reported earlier this week that it believes Cano to be cut off from the rest of his forces and guarded by only a dozen men. Cano is currently pursued by 1,000 troops.
The Colombian government has said it is optimistic regarding his capture.
