A grenade attack in Santa Marta, on Colombia’s Caribbean coast, killed one man and injured a women on Monday evening, various media reported.
According to local media, two men on motorcycles threw a grenade near the house of a lawyer. The grenade bounced off of the house, and detonated near Fabio Delgados Ramos, a 34 year-old who was riding his bicycle at the time. Ramos died in a local hospital on Monday night.
A mother, driving near the scene of the crime with her daughter, was injured by grenade shrapnel. Reports confirmed that the mother is recovering from minor injuries, and that the young daughter was not hurt by the blast.
The local community has strongly urged authorities to intensify security in the area, as killings have soared and the city is becoming less safe, said one resident of the neighborhood.
