“Good bye Mockus, we’ll go it alone,” presidential candidate Gustavo Petro commented via Twitter, after the Green Party candidate’s ruled out a potential political alliance with Polo Democratico in a second round election.
“There have not been talks… The people are demanding that the alliance that the people of the Green Party reject the most is an alliance with Polo,” Antanas Mockus told La F.M Tuesday.
Mockus’ comment follows an announcement via his Twitter account Monday, in which he definitively ruled out a potential alliance with Petro.
Petro said last Thursday that he would be interested in forming a coalition with the Green Party, if Polo Democratico were to reach a second round election.
Colombians will head to the polls May 30 to elect their next president. If none of the candidates wins more than 50% of the vote, the two leading candidates will face off in a second round election.
