Colombian tennis star Santiago Giraldo reached the semi-finals of the ATP 500 in Acapulco, after defeating Argentine Carlos Berlocq Thursday.
Having trailed the first set 5-2, Giraldo fought back to win 7-5. He then lost the second set 3-6, but clinched the match after a 6-4 victory in the third set.
The semi-final berth in Mexico is the third of Giraldo’s ATP tour career, having previously got to the same stage in last year’s New Zealand and Chilean competitions.
Giraldo will face ATP’s 6th ranked Spanish player David Ferrer in the semi-final.
In the women’s competition Colombian Mariana Duque was knocked out by Italian Flavia Panneta [0-6, 4-6], while Juan Sebastian Cabal faced a similar fate in the doubles as he and Italian Daniele Bracciali were defeated by Spanish pair Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez [7-5, 1-6, 7-10].
