Mexican drug trafficker arrested in Colombia

by Jim Glade January 20, 2011

Colombia news - garra

Colombian police captured a Mexican drug trafficker with strong ties to Colombian neo-paramilitary group ERPAC.

Commander of the Judicial Police Carlos Ramiro Mena announced Thursday that police have captured Carlos Arturo Cordoba, alias “Garra,” in the city of Villavivencio, 75 km southeast of Bogota reported W Radio.

Garra is accused of participating in deceased leader, Pedro Guerrero “Cuchillo” Castillo’s Popular Revolutionary Anti-terrorist Army of Colombia (ERPAC).

Mena revealed that Garra recruited pilots who flew drug shipments from Colombia to Central America. The drugs would then be passed on to the Sinaloa Cartel or the cartel, Los Beltran Leyva.

After Cuchillo died in a Christmas Eve assault by security forces, Garra allegedly moved to make an alliance with fugitive drug trafficker Daniel “El Loco” Barrera.

Garra is wanted for extradition to the United States by the New York Eastern District Court and DEA for allegedly smuggling in more than 90 tons of cocaine and laundering over $100 million in drug money.

The arrest of Garra comes one week after the arrest of a Cali man who was a link between the Colombian drug traffickers “Los Rastrojos” and the Mexican Sinaloa Cartel.
