Friendly with Atletico Madrid will net $100,000 for Bogota team

by Brandon Barrett March 23, 2012

Bogota‘s Millonarios soccer club and Spanish side Atletico Madrid are set to face-off after a press conference from the Colombian capital Friday officially confirmed the May 16 match.

The contest, to be held in Bogotas’ El Campin stadium, is expected to generate $100,000 for the Colombian club, reported local media.

All of Atletico Madrid’s stars are expected to play, including Colombian darlings Luis Amaranto Perea and Radamel Falcao. Falcao or “El Tigre” as he’s affectionately known, will serve as the ambassador for the friendly match. There are rumors that he may even don the Millonarios blue for the game, as he was once a member of the Millos youth team, although this will ultimately depend on Madrid’s coaching staff.

“We are excited about this event. (…) It generates a lot internationally, not only for the Millonarios brand which continues to be recognized internationally, but for the whole team and its players,” said the team’s President Felipe Gaitan.

The Iberian side are expected to arrive in Colombia May 14 before the friendly gets underway two days later.
