Four Colombian soldiers have died in an alleged FARC attack in the southern department of Putamayo early Monday morning, reported Colombian daily El Tiempo.

The four dead were named as Jairo Pena, Diego Bustamante Giraldo, Dario Guerrero and Luis Humberto Cuasquer Reinel.

According to local official Carlos Pascue, the fighting began when the guerrillas attacked a police station and the Loma de Belen military base.
