Former navy Colonel Luis Fernando Borja Giraldo was sentenced on Wednesday to 21 years in prison for the murder of civilians to inflate military kill counts.
Giraldo pleaded guilty to homicide charges, and consequentially reduced his 42 year sentence to 21 years in prison.
The ex-leader of the Sucre Joint Task Force took responsibility of the November 1, 2007 killings of farmers Fabio Laberto Feria and Eleonais Manuel Correa.
Giraldo also offered the human rights prosecutor general the names of officers and soldiers who participated in both this and in other acts perpetrated by the same military unit. According to the prosecutor general’s report, members of the Sucre Joint Task Force are potentially liable for at least 50 similar premeditated homicides.
