Colombian army dismantles FARC training school

by Jim Glade May 9, 2011

Colombia News - FARC Training Camp

Colombian armed forces have dismantled a FARC training school and seized explosives in the Arauca department, near the Venezuela border, newspaper El Espectador reported Monday.

Army personnel said that members of the 8th Brigade found the training camp, belonging to the “Grigelio Almarales” company of the FARC, in the municipality of Tame, in eastern Arauca.

No guerrillas were found at the camp, which was equipped with clandestine drag ditches, an obstacle course, and fitness training bars. In the same area, army members discovered a camp with a kitchen, bathroom, raised beds, food storage and security posts.

In a separate find, security forces encountered cylinders containing 40 kilos of explosive material meant to explode underneath two ramps in a rural part of Tame.
